The Long Pilgrimage to Justice

Christine Marie Eberle

January 25, 2025

Our call to stand with and advocate for vulnerable populations needs solid spiritual grounding—now more than ever. Justice work is often described as “a marathon, not a sprint,” but for women and men of Mercy, pilgrimage might be a more useful metaphor. Pilgrimage offers us guideposts: deep presence to the journey as well as the destination; commitment to community; the grace of curiosity and wonder—all of which can steady us in uncertain times. During this retreat afternoon, using presentation, reflection, conversation, brainstorming, and prayer, we will mine the concept of pilgrimage. Together, we will identify practical strategies and time-tested spiritual practices to sustain individually and communally in our work for mercy and justice.

Christine has a new book out,  Finding God Along the Way: Wisdom from the Ignatian Camino for Life at Home. (Copies will be available for purchase.)
