Honoring LGBTQ+ Voices: A Listening Session
Bernadette Rudolph and Margie Winters
July 16, 2025
Some unusual things are converging in Philadelphia and they are leading us to invite you to a special listening session for LGBTQ+ persons and those who love them.
- First, Pope Francis led the Church into a new way of being that is based on listening to the Holy Spirit in our lives and in each other. This is called synodality and it is inclusive of all people. Pope Leo has indicated he will continue the synodal momentum.
- Second, Archbishop Perez has kicked off a ten-year renewal process called the Fourth Way. With a heart wide open to the Spirit; he asks, “Where should the Church be in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and how?”
- Third, Cranaleith has always been a place where everyone’s relationship to the sacred is welcomed.
The result: at Cranaleith, we want to listen to the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in a synodal way. We will share your wisdom with Archbishop to help create a healthier, fuller answer to his question.
If you or someone you love is an LGBTQ+ person, please join our conversation. We will use a formal, reflective practice called Conversation in the Spirit, that allows everyone to prayerfully reflect, have equal, uninterrupted time to speak and create together a vision for stronger community life. In this sacred space, we will reverence your experience of God’s presence and attentively listen to your vision for the Church of Philadelphia—where it needs to be and how it can truly embody the Gospel in our time.
Your voice matters. We believe that any meaningful path forward for our Archdiocese must be shaped by your insights, your stories, and your hopes. Without your input, no plan could truly reflect the inclusive, Spirit-led Church we are called to become.
