Encouraging cooperation, enriching communities, and cultivating individual worth, dignity, and capacity are the principles that have guided Sokmala Chy (So-ma-la Chai) in her pursuits for a life of exploration, immersion, and service. From resettling in an Amish homestead in Lancaster, PA, as a new American to living and working among a Bedouin community in the Moroccan Sahara as a Peace Corps volunteer, Sokmala has learned the worth of understanding different cultures, values, and perspectives.
Living out her passions, Sokmala has worked at various nonprofit organizations. Most recently, she is the former Executive Director at the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia and a past member of the Mayor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs.
Sokmala was born in Khao-I-Dang refugee camp in Thailand. She earned her Master of Public Administration from West Chester University, with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. In her free time, Sokmala enjoys hiking, camping, and jigsaw puzzles.
