Nobody said life would be easy, but does it have to be this hard?  In our society, we live with racism, a partisan chasm in politics, a pandemic, failed immigration policy, over-priced health care, tensions between the U.S. and other nations and a sea of values vying to shape public policy.  In our personal lives, we lose jobs, family members, marriages, our innate dignity, our freedom to move about, clarity about our beliefs and faith in church leaders.

Strange as it may sound, four Old Testament characters faced similar struggles and their stories provide insight for us today.  Their narratives, contained in the four brief books of Ruth, Tobit, Judith and Jonah, relate how each of them responded to adversity in light of their relationship with God. God both supported and challenged them to face their difficulties righteously.

Each session in this series is self-contained; choose to attend one or more of the sessions.  Participants are asked to read the corresponding book before each session if possible.  In each session, Bernadette will provide some historical context for the book.  The group will then discuss the characters’ interaction with their situation and with God.  We will also reflect on what the story has to say to our current situations of adversity and how God supports and challenges us.

All  sessions are on Thursdays, 10am-noon, on Zoom.
